Fungal Foray Event was held on Sunday 14th October.
Wyre Forest Park Rangers provided a FREE, short, guided walk around Springfield Park. With the damp conditions this year participants seeking fungi were presented with several different species. Some are pictured below, those who missed it this year it is hoped that the event will be held again next year.
Fungi are vital to our woodlands because working together with bacteria, they are responsible for returning dead material to the soil. A form of recycling, if dead mater was not recycled by the fungi's activities the planet be lost under piles, many metres thick, of dead plant and animal remains.
Warning - it would be advisable to wash your hands if you touch or handle fungi as some are poisonous.
