27th November/5th December 2010 - National Tree Week.
The Councils Tree Officer, Alvin Kingston will be working with the Friends of Springfield Park and St. Marys Primary School as part of National Tree Week to plant trees within areas of the park. Each year, the initiative is supported by setting up fun, worthwhile and accessible events, inspiring people to get their hands dirty and together plant around million treesand to do something positive for their local treescape. Unfortunately the weather meant that this event had to be postponed. The Council have commenced planting on Clensmore Field of TBA whips and future dates will be rescheduled for the local community to assist with.
23rd October 2010 - Tidy Day BBQ
The Friends of Springfield Park met together with local residents and volunteers to tidy up the park. We collected numerous bags of rubbish from the Stream, Stack pool, Canal, pathways and grassed areas. We celebrated afterwards with a hot dog and other refreshments kindly cooked by the Scouts from KD TBA. Funding for the event was provided by TBA. This photo pictures some of the volunteers who took part. Many thanks to you all.
