Woodland Tidy Day.
Friends of Springfield Park together with Wyre Forest District Council and community volunteers worked hard at the Woodland Tidy Day on the 25th and 26th June 2011.
Having previously taken a walk around Springfield Park with WFDC Arboricultual Officer, Alvan Kingston, the group discussed areas of the park which need attention, the Woodland Area being one of them. The group have since produced a wish list for the parks development and under the guidance of WFDC the tidy day was arranged. Local notices and flyers were distributed. A small number of volunteers met both days. Alvan led the working party, the group chose to concentrate on removing brambles and undergrowth from around young trees. The day was a great success with more to be planned for the future.
We have decided to continue tidying this area every Wednesday 6.00pm till 8.00pm. Volunteers welcome.

31st January 2011
Due to matters out of our control and the short time available, we're unable to hang the bird boxes on Monday. The local Council will be hanging them in the near future. This gives us an opportunity to get more people involved and do something different with the boxes when we are able to put them in place.
The bulb planting is still happening and the local Council have kindly offered to loan us a few spades.
St Mary's Primary School are very keen to get involved with planting bulbs with us. This is fortunate because the bulbs can't be planted in Springfield Park anymore as we don't have even nearly enough. The school have 25 volunteers, they also have 50 trees so it's going to be a very productive morning. Also the Council are providing us with Paul Allen who is the Head Ranger for the them, he'll be educating the young pupils (and us older ones) on various interesting bits and bobs to do with the wildlife side of the park from 11am to mid-day.
If you are interested in volunteering see you with your wellies and spade at the school reception 10am.
